Setting Up a Sales Modifier

Created by Matthew Bartels, Modified on Wed, 19 Feb at 1:15 PM by Matthew Bartels

Sales modifiers in PowerEPOS allow you to create multiple variants of a single PLU (Product Lookup Unit). This is commonly used for sizes (e.g., Small, Medium, Large for coffee) but can also apply to other product variations (e.g., wine by the glass vs. bottle).

For example, instead of creating separate PLUs for Flat White Small, Flat White Medium, and Flat White Large, a sales modifier enables you to have one PLU (Flat White) with selectable size and price options.

Step 1: Ensure PLUs Are Created

Before setting up a sales modifier, ensure that your PLUs are already created in the PLU List.

Click here for the PLU setup guide.

Step 2: Creating a Sales Modifier

  1. Open the Sales Modifier Screen in POS System Manager (PSM).
  2. Click Insert to create a new sales modifier.
    • If you want to add a PLU to an existing sales modifier, select and edit the existing modifier instead.

  3. Enter a Name & Prefix:
    • Name: Used for button creation and easy identification in PSM.
    • Prefix: Used for printing and ordering (e.g., LRG for "Large" Coffee).

  4. Choose a Pricing Method:

    Pricing OptionDescription
MultiplyMultiplies the active price level by a set factor (e.g., Large is 2x the price of Regular).
AdjustAdjusts the price up/down by a fixed amount (e.g., Large is $1 more than the base PLU price).
Price TableManually sets prices for up to 9 price levels, allowing full control.
Set PriceCharges a fixed price when the modifier is applied.

  5. Set Sales Qualifications:
    • Determine which PLUs can use this sales modifier.
    • You can qualify based on:
      • Main Group
      • Reporting Group
      • Specific PLUs

Step 3: Assigning Prices to the Sales Modifier

If your sales modifier uses a Price Table, you need to configure the prices for your PLUs.

  1. Open the PLU List in PSM.
  2. Locate and edit the PLU you need to configure.

  3. Navigate to the Pricing Tab.

  4. Find your sales modifier in the list (it should be ticked ✅).

  5. Set the price for the applicable price level when the modifier is applied.
  6. If the modifier is not enabled, check the box ✅ to enable it for that PLU.
  7. Click Save, then Publish Config to apply changes to the POS.
